Toilet paper roll keychain ornament

FREE PATTERN

Here is my version of a toilet paper roll keychain or ornament

This would make a great addition as an ornament that represents the year 2020.

I used two strands of 4ply worsted weight white yarn  about 15 yards with 2mm hook and a small amount of polyfil stuffing  You can also use a sport weight.

Each one is about 1.25 inches wide.

I added 6mm eyes to one of them just to give it a different look.

mc= magic circle

sc= single crochet

sl=slip stitch

fsc= foundation single crochet

**I added an update at the bottom for adjustment for adding date 2020 to the back of the roll**

First I make the sides of the roll using back loops only

SIDES

Round 1: Magic circle, ch1, 6 sc, sl in back loop of first sc (6)

Round 2: ch1, 2sc in back loop of each sc, sl in back loop of first sc (12)

Round 3: ch1, 2sc in back loop of each sc, sl in back loop of first sc (24)

Round 4: ch1, sc in back loop of each sc, sl through both loops of first sc (24).  Finish off first side.  Make a second side but do not finish off

The remaining is worked in rows and connecting to the sides.

When connecting to the sides, use the unworked from loop from Round 3,  you will not work stitches into Round 4,  this round will be on inside of the finished product.

Row 1: ch1 in first unused front loop of round 3 insert hook from top to bottom (see photo below), 6 fsc, join 1st side by sc in any unused front loop of round 3 (see 2nd photo below), sc in next (to the left insert hook from bottom to top) unused front loop of round 3, turn - do not chain

Row3 front loops marked in RED

Adding 1st side, hook goes bottom to top

Row 2: skip the 2 side stitches, sc in top of each fsc (6), sc in each of next 2 (to the right insert hook top to bottom) unused front loops of round 3 of 2nd side, turn

Row 3: skip the 2 side stitches, sc in next 6 stitches,  sc in each of next 2 (to the left) unused front loops of round 3 of 1st side, turn

Row 4: skip the 2 side stitches, sc in next 6 stitches, sc in each of next 2 (to the right) unused front loops of round 3 of 2nd side, turn

Rows 5-23: repeat rows 3&4 ending with row 3

Row 24: skip the 2 side stitches, sc in next 6 stitches,  sc in next (to the right) unused front loop of round 3 of 2nd side, turn

add optional safety eyes in between rows 4&5 in first and last stitches of the 6sc, embroider optional mouth,  stuff firmly.

next row will join and close the hole.

Row 25: skip the one side stitch, (the remaining stitches on this row are worked though both loops of row 24 and the bottom chains of the fsc stitches from row 1) 2sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 4, 2sc in last , ch1, turn (8 sc)

The remaining rows are the part that hangs off the roll.

Rows 26-30: sc in each stitch across, ch1, turn (8 sc)

Row 31: sc in each stitch across, finish off

Add a keyring or ribbon

I hope you enjoy your little toilet paper roll.

***update 11/7/2020*** to add year to the roll, it works out better using 7 stitches across instead of 6.  I also emborider the date over rows 16 & 17 after if finish row 19. Rows 25-31 will need to be adjusted to 9 sc..
