Kitty and Doggie cup cozies

 I have been making these super quick and easy kitty and doggie cup cozies

FREE PATTERN

Here is what you will need

Yarn - any 4 weight yarn - I used acrylic but you can use cotton or a cotton blend
Hook - 5mm
Optional Safety Eyes/buttons/glue on eyes etc
Optional Safety nose/button/glue on nose etc
small amount of yarn or embroidery floss for faces
Optional fishing line or nylon thread for cat whiskers

Gauge - starting chain should be approx. 8" and stretch to 9" for a 12 oz coffee cup   (after round 1 check to make sure it will fit snuggly around cup add or remove chains or go up/down in hook size)

Terms (US)

sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = triple crochet
ss = slip stitch
ch = chain
shell = hdc, 2dc, tr, 2dc, hdc in same stitch
The stitch counts in parenthesis at end of each Round/Row are for reference only

We will start with a loose chain of 35, slip stitch in first chain form a loop (to make the seam less visible, pull the stitch tight, ch1 and pull that stitch tight - do this at the end of every round).

Rounds 1-11: sc in same stitch as ss&ch, sc in each stitch around, sl in first sc, pull tight, ch1, pull tight (35 sc)

Kitty (make two shells evenly spaced in the front half of cozy - you will need to make adjustments if you added or removed stitches to the starting chain)

Round 12 (kitty) - sc in same stitch as ss&ch, sc in next 11 stitches, shell (hdc, 2dc, tr, 2 dc, hdc) in next stitch, skip stitch, sc in next 7 stitches, shell (hdc, 2dc, tr, 2dc, hdc) in next stitch, skip stitch, sc in next 12 stitches, slip stitch in first sc, finish off

Doggie (make two ears evenly spaced on each side of cozy - you will need to make adjustments if you added or removed stitches to the starting chain). The dog ears are work in rows going up/down and connecting with sc to Round 11 - see photo for reference or you can do the optional SEW ON ears (instructions at the end)
